On To Boca Chica
Friday we drove about 1 hour and 45 minutes from the slightly chilly raininess that is Boquete to what will hopefully be, if nothing else, a warmer climate even if it does rain. During the ride the sun is out and I hope that it is not just teasing because we are driving and that once we get where we are going the skies open but we'll see.
When we arrive to the area we pass by where we are staying and head on down to the village so we can get a few provisions.
The village itself is so small. There is one street in and one street out. When you arrive at the entrance to the village you basically stay to the right, drive down a few blocks, cross over and come back up the other side.
There is one small store in town and it's funny because they have practically everything you could need - if you can find it in the cramped store- but they don't have bacon. They do however have cold medicine for Dave which appears to be very similar to Alka Seltzer Plus cold medicine back home. Hopefully this helps with his cold. Next to the small store is the only gas station which is not more than a single pump which you have to go down to get the guy that runs the restaurant down the road to get it unlocked. There is a church, a small playground for the kids, maybe 3 or 4 restaurants and at the end of each street, there are docks for boats and water taxis.
After our 5 minute tour of the village, we head to where we are staying - Hotel Boca del Mar. This is a combination of hotel rooms with some apartment type villas on the hill which is what I had booked. It's definitely the off season as there are not many people here and it's nice and quiet. The place is really nice and they appear to be trying to make it your one stop for everything on your trip, including really expensive day trips from their docks.
As it turns out Dave and I don't really feel like doing anything and we spend most of our time hanging out by the pool and our villa and we keep our money in our own pockets!!
Sunday we are sitting in our villa after dinner and we felt this little rumbling for a couple of seconds and Dave asked "Did you feel that?" and I replied "Yeah, I thought that you moved the couch" then we felt another rougher rumble for about 3-4 seconds and just looked at each other. It turns out that there was a 4.7 magnitude earthquake far to the west of us but it seems that it was felt throughout the Chiriqui area, a little unnerving.
Monday is more of the same - lounge by the pool while the sun is out, head back to the villa when the clouds roll in. For our last night we head back into the little village and eat at the no name restaurant down by the docks. We ate here Saturday as well and it was very good as long as you don't mind waiting for them to hand prepare your meal. Tonight I had the fried snapper - I prefer it grilled but most places only do fried so I'll take what I can get. It was just the right way to end our time here.
So while we didn't do a whole hell of a lot here, we did get a lot of relaxing time in before having to head back to the city for our last night and then home.
